From modern appreciation to future heirloom status, a great luxury watch is a man’s best accessory. And when you engage rugged good looks and stylish sophistication with almost a century of innovation, that accessory upgrades from secondary ensemble piece to the front and center superstar. Such is a Tudor watch.

Since joining sister company Rolex in 1926, Tudor has been on the most discerning watch wearers’ radar (and wrists). The brand has earned a reputation for accuracy and strength in character and composition at an accessible price. Its timepieces have been worn by everyone, from underwater thrill-seekers to the stylish everyday set.

The Black Bay Collection

Launched in 2012, the famous Black Bay Collection is the modern incarnation of Tudor’s iconic 7922 Submariner. This design first swam to the surface in 1954 and took command of the 20th-century horology with its style and quality. Today, the Black Bay collection is a dozen substantial variations, ranging from chic time-only versions to sporty, high-performance chronographs. With a rich catalog of iconic models to draw inspiration, let’s dive into three new watches in the Black Bay 2021 collection. These timepieces are the ones to watch, as they’re sure to take well-earned places among the brand’s classics.

Black Bay Ceramic

Shed a little light on Black Bay’s first model to feature a ceramic case, and you’ll discover true subtle sophistication. The sleek and stealth appearance results from the high-tech matte black ceramic, which gives the monobloc case an impressive color depth. The dial is dressed in all black, shining the spotlight on Tudor’s signature snowflake hands and hour-markers in Swiss Super-LumiNova.

Another first for a Tudor timepiece, this watch was held against one of the most demanding certifications and passed with flying colors. Boasting Master Chronometer status by METAS (Switzerland’s guardian of measurement units), the ceramic’s movement has been certified for the precision of five seconds per day. This is a stated power reserve of 70 hours, waterproofness to up to 200 meters, and resistance to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gausses. Tudor doesn’t keep its fans in the dark, so they opened the back for a sneak peek into its inner workings – an all-black MT5602-1U Manufacture Calibre. The timepiece is finished with an elegant hybrid leather and rubber strap, a touch that supports the notion that the darker the oyster, the more the pearl shines.

Chrono

With the 50th anniversary of Tudor’s first mechanical chronograph (the Oysterdate Series 7000) in the books, the Black Bay Chrono was recently thrust into the spotlight with its reimagined design. The new version is the slimmest yet, measuring .5mm thinner than its original form 2017, while still housing the same top-quality Manufacture chronograph Calibre MT5813. With the all-steel craftsmanship in polished and satin finishes, the new Chrono channels the golden age of sport watches by adding a black tachymeter bezel and your choice of two dial configurations – black with white sub-dials or white with black sub-dials, also known as the panda dial.

Each timepiece is waterproof to 200 meters and boasts a 70-hour power reserve, silicon balance spring, Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute certification, and the iconic snowflake hands. The flashes of red from the chronograph seconds hand are almost a surprise bonus cherry on top. The case can be paired with one of three watch brands: Tudor’s hallmark black Jacquard-woven fabric strap, a stainless steel bracelet inspired by Tudor’s 1950s folding riveted bracelets, or an aged black leather with contrast stitching and folding clasp.

Whether you’re adding to your collection or you’re investigating high-end Swiss timepieces for your first, it’s time to get to know Tudor.
